Iran Military Chief Warns of Broader Aerial Attacks If Israel Responds
Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said the missile attack launched against the occupied territories was limited to military targets, but warned of broader strikes if the Zionist regime responds.
Following Operation True Promise II on Tuesday, Maj. Gen. Baqeri stated that Iran exercised self-restraint after the Israeli murder of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh but ran out of patience following its assassination of Hezbollah’s Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan.Iran had targeted military infrastructure including the Mossad intelligence agency, the Nevatim Air Base, Hatzor Air Base, radar installations and groupings of Israeli tanks, despite having the option of launching a much broader attack, he added.“We had the capability to attack the regime’s economic infrastructure, but we only targeted military bases,” the top general stressed.Maj. Gen. Baqeri also added a warning to the Tel Aviv regime and its supporters.“If the Zionist regime is not controlled and takes action against Iran, we will target all of its infrastructure,” he stressed. The military chief asserted that Iran’s Armed Forces were completely prepared to respond to the potential repetition of such atrocities on the part of the regime, describing the forces’ capabilities as “many times more than” what was displayed during True Promise II.
“If the Zionist regime, which has reached madness, was not controlled by the United States and Europe, and sought to either continue its atrocities or take action against our territorial integrity and sovereignty, tonight’s operation would be repeated with multiple magnitude and all of their infrastructures would be struck,” he cautioned. He, however, hoped that the US would reverse its approach and stop the regime so the region could move towards experiencing calm.
On Tuesday, the IRGC responded to the triple assassinations as well as the regime’s ongoing military onslaught against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon by launching hundreds of missiles toward Israeli military and intelligence bases all over the occupied Palestinian territories. The IRGC stressed in a statement that the attack was in line with Iran’s right to legitimate self-defense as per the United Nations Charter, and in response to the Zionist regime's escalating crimes—backed by the United States—against the people of Lebanon and Palestine. The statement said that in this military operation, a number of air and radar bases, as well as centers for conspiracy and assassination planning against resistance leaders and IRGC commanders were targeted. The IRGC noted that even though the designated areas were shielded by advanced defense systems, 90% of the missiles successfully hit their targets.“The Zionist regime has been terrified by the intelligence and operational dominance of the Islamic Republic,” it added.
The General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces also commented on the military operation in a statement, saying it came in reaction to the regime’s disregard for the legitimate sovereign rights of the Islamic Republic. It praised the response as an instance of the country’s “making any malicious aggressor, at any level, regret their actions".The statement warned the aggressive regime that “it should expect the widespread and comprehensive destruction of its infrastructure within the occupied Palestinian lands if it responds [to the operation] in kind".It finally cautioned the regime’s supporters, including the United States, against taking part in direct intervention against the Islamic Republic, adding such interference would warrant “a powerful and regret-inducing response against their centers and interests across the region".
