Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Assassinated in Iran
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement that head of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred in an attack on their residence in Tehran.
The IRGC said in a statement on Wednesday that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence was hit in the Iranian capital. The statement added the attack is under investigation and the results will be announced later in the day.Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. The two leaders were pictured together in official photographs released by the Iranian presidency. The IRGC issued another statement hours later, warning that the Zionist regime will face “a harsh and painful response” from Tehran and its regional allies.“This crime showed that the Zionist gang of criminals, murderers and terrorists, without any regard for international rules and regulations, does not shy away from committing any criminal action to cover up the shameful failures of nine months of war in Gaza, which led to the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian women, men and children,” the statement read.
The development came amid Hamas’ all-out endeavours to defend the Gaza Strip against an ongoing genocidal war by Israel, and the movement’s participation in negotiations aimed at bringing about a ceasefire to end the military onslaught against the besieged enclave.Hamas pledged to take revenge for Haniyeh's assassination, saying in a statement its political chief “passed as a result of a treacherous Zionist raid".“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns the sons of our great Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nation, and all the free people of the world,” it added.#Hamas#Ismail_Haniyeh 08:43 - 10 مرداد 1403
