GMO: Israeli Forces Control 77 Percent of Gaza

The Israeli military now in effect controls 77 percent of the total geographical area of the Gaza Strip, according to the enclave’s Government Media Office on Sunday.
“This is achieved through direct ground incursions and the deployment of occupation forces within residential and civilian areas, through heavy fire control that prevents Palestinian citizens from accessing their homes, areas, lands, and property, or through unjust forced eviction policies,” it said in a statement. The office called on the UN and the international community to take action to stop the Israeli expansion. On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the entire Gaza Strip will be under the Israeli military’s control at the end of its latest offensive, setting out maximalist conditions for ending the devastating war on the besieged Palestinian enclave. On May 4, Israel's Security Cabinet approved the "Chariots of Gideon" operation to expand the genocide in Gaza. The government later began implementing it by calling up tens of thousands of reservists. On May 18, the army launched the plan with a ground assault from several directions.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Friday, over 172,000 people have been displaced in Gaza in the past week due to intense Israeli attacks and the siege.Residents report that the displaced are not spared from Israeli fire, as they are often targeted during displacement and in areas to which they flee, resulting in large numbers of casualties. In early May, the United Nations announced that 70% of the Gaza Strip is either within Israeli militarized zones, under displacement orders, or in areas where the two overlap.Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 53,900 Palestinians, most of them women and children.Israel also has come under international pressure to halt its punishing total blockade on Gaza, which had prevented any food or aid trucks from entering the territory since March 2.That has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian catastrophe inside the enclave. A United Nations-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification assessment found more than 93 percent of children in Gaza, or about 930,000, are on the brink of famine.
